Dixon Cooke’s first farm was at Coopers Creek, then he acquired his fathers property “The Pines” at Wollongbar, c1864 - but he is best known for his Ideal/wonderful farm herd of dairy cattle at “Fairfield”. He bought the property from his brother-in-law William Freeborn. He was a director of the Tweed-Lismore Pastures Protection Board, life member of the North Coast National and Alstonville and Bonalbo Agricultural Societies, Director of the old Ballina Cooperative Butter and Bacon Society. He was generous giving to Red Cross ,Legacy, his church. A keen member of the Church of England, Alstonville

The first private importation of Guernseys occurred in 1904, when Dixon Cooke of Alstonville, near Wollongbar, secured a bull and five cows from the island of Guernsey
